DENNIS SMITH IN ACTION TONIGHT
“It’s so hard because I didn’t turn up, never turned up at all,” he said.
“Everything was great in the practice room and I was feeling nice and relaxed, but when I got up on the stage it just didn’t happen.
“The darts didn’t go in, which annoyed me, but then when he found his form I couldn’t keep up with his pace and it was over. It was one of those days.”

Smith’s misery is complete as Lewis takes out double 10 to win the match.

Lewis takes out double two to win another leg.
2-0 down to Adrian Lewis is more than a mountain to climb isn't it, but what a story it would be.

Double top again for Lewis as he eases to the second set.

A more scrappy leg this time but Lewis takes out nine on double four to go one leg away from a 2-0 lead.

Smith starts the second set with a 140 and later hits a ton and a 105 but Lewis takes out tops again.
Adrian Lewis only threw 43 darts to win that set. Impressive stuff.
Smiffy needed to win the first set in this and he hasn't managed it. All uphill from here.

Smith looks nervous.
Great to see Dennis Smith back at the world championships, an inspiration to big, middle-aged, hairy, sweaty men everywhere #WorldDarts— @NiceMarker 18 December 2013
Come on Denzil!
And here comes Lewis, to his usual 'Reach Up' chooone by that well known band Pig Bag.
Here comes Smiffy, entering the stage to London Calling by The Clash.
Here we go then, players just about to make their entrance.
Fancy Lewis 3-0 here against Dennis Smith @brighty87 knows!!!— @sdalton87 18 December 2013
The Sky Sports pundits all seem to think Smiffy's slow pace could get in Lewis' head. Hope they're right!
When I spoke to Dennis yesterday he still hadn't decided what his walk-on music would be. Should have been top of his list.

Wish this game would end so I can watch Dennis Smith :')— @CLBrosnan93 18 December 2013
Smith knows he's the underdog this evening, but it's a tag he relishes.
“I’m the underdog and I love it," he said.
“There’s no pressure on me because I’m expected to get beat and all I can do is cause a shock.
“Adrian’s a great player but I would love to kick the hornet’s nest and turn everything around.”
Dennis Smith will stun Adrian Lewis 3-2.— @PirlosRightPeg 18 December 2013
Smith's throwing action gets a lot of attention due to the fact it is very unconvential. Most of the attention is bad to be honest, but it doesn't bother the man himself because it works for him.

Time to hear from the man himself, who believes victory over Lewis this evening would rank as one of the biggest achievements of his career.
“I’m looking forward to this now and have put in a load of work and won a few tournaments, but now it’s time to deliver,” he said.
“I’ve worked all year to get here and I want to go as far as I can because we all dream of getting to the final and winning a world title.
“Beating Adrian Lewis, the world number three, at the Alexandra Palace in the World Championship would have to be right at the top of my career.
“I’ve beaten top seeds before but this is different because he’s in form, won two world titles and will be expected to win.”

Attention all budding darts players. If you watch this video of Smiffy teaching you how to practise you will be on the PDC stage inside a year, that's a promise.
Smith has put in a series of consistent performances throughout this year to earn his place for tonight's match, including a Players Championship semi-final and a quarter-final on the European Tour.
All that has left him 49th in the current PDC Order of Merit.
Swindon's Dennis Smith is in first round action against two-time world champion and world number three Adrian Lewis, with the game next on stage.
Good evening and wecome to the beautiful Alexandra Palace, the home of the World Darts Championship.
