Old Boys in desperate need of points
SWINDON College Old Boys boss Martin Peaple knows picking up points from tomorrow’s clash with Drifters is vital if his side are to keep their season alive.
The Nationwide outfit sit bottom of Southern Counties North following promotion at the end of last season and are still awaiting their first victory of a campaign blighted by injuries.
Old Boys play their rearranged game with Drifters tomorrow, with the rest of the league already broken up for Christmas, and chairman Peaple is well aware his side need to pick up points quickly if they are to maintain any hope of staying up.
In Peaple’s eyes a bonus point is the least his side need to take from tomorrow’s match and if they don’t pick up their first win soon, the club will begin to plan for next season rather than continue their fight for survival.
“We got a bonus point out of last week (20-13 loss to Wootton Bassett) which is probably the very least we were looking for to be honest, but we have another chance now to drag out some more points before Christmas,” he said.
“We are just about at the halfway point of the season now so we need to start earmarking some games to take some points from.
“At the very least we need to take a bonus point from this one. Maybe they might have a few unavailable because it’s the week before Christmas, but to be fair we are in the same boat I think.
“The bonus point would be a minimum really and maybe we could even get that first win of the season which could help us get going in the new year.
“Being realistic we need to win this game, or one of the next two or three, because otherwise we need to start making contingency plans for next season to be honest.”
“Things would have gone too far if that happens so we do really need to get a win from a big game like this.”
