TROWBRIDGE head coach Steve Ojomoh urged his side not to let their standards drop after seeing them secure the first piece of silverware under his stewardship in a mudbath at Warminster RFC’s Folly Lane on Saturday.

A dominant first-half performance did the damage, Trowbridge scoring four tries in the opening 40 minutes against local rivals Corsham to lay the platform for victory against their Southern Counties South rivals.

The Doric Park side, currently second in the league, return to action with a home league match against Wimborne tomorrow week – also the official opening of their new facilities - as they aim to maintain their pursuit of division leaders Wells.

Former Bath and England forward Ojomoh said: “It’s nice to have a trophy locked up in the cabinet before Christmas.

“It just give us that confidence, but we’ll put that to bed now and chase other things.

“We tend to struggle a little after a break so we’re trying to put things in place so that doesn’t affect us. We’ll enjoy this, but January 4 is looming very close and it’s important we hit the ground running in the new year.’’

Trowbridge took full advantage of a fierce wind in their favour in the first half and Ojomoh added: “With the wind and the conditions under foot it was always going to be a game of two different halves.

“They (Corsham) gave us the wind (in the first half) which we were very grateful for, but unfortunately we lost the second half.

“I think the conditions were a factor in that, but you’ve got to applaud how we dealt with the first half. For me the important thing was that we were able to use the squad. It was a 20-man effort.’’

Corsham head coach Dan Jeffries saluted his side for battling on despite their first-half deficit.

Jeffries said: “I thought Trowbridge took their chances really well in the first half and exploited it well when we went down to 14 players in that period just before half-time.

“However the boys were asked to simplify their game in the second half and play the conditions.

“The boys really stepped up. We controlled the second half, and had a couple of near scores, but Trowbridge dug in and defended well.’’

Trowbridge ran in four first half tries, with Mark Durant, James Macfarlane, Barry Combes and Sam Edwards going over the line, with Lloyd Davies also kicking a penalty and two conversions.

Corsham's Henry Brown and Rob Holden went over for the beaten finallists, with Dan Goldsworthy kicking their extras.
