THE Airsprung match fished on the Kennet & Avon Canal at Avoncliffe produced excellent weights despite rain and windy conditions.

Top honours went to Richard Whitmarsh, from Frome, with roach and skimmers weighing 12 lb 8 oz.

Matt Oliver, from Trowbridge, was runner up with 10 lb 12 oz of roach and skimmer and Dean Adams, from Bradford, took third with 6 lb 15 oz of perch, roach and skimmers.

Other placings: 4. Stan Blackmore Trowbridge 6 lb 13 oz; 5. Kelvin Oliver Trowbridge 5 lb 8 oz; 6. Andrew Fox Trowbridge 4 lb 8 oz.

THE Friday Avon match was switched to the Kennet & Avon Canal at Whaddon, where Gary Etheridge, from Devizes, carried off top prize with a mixed catch of roach and skimmers weighing 4 lb.

Adrian McTiffin, from Melksham, took runner up spot with 3 lb 14 oz of roach and skimmers and Graham Pearce, also of Melksham, was third with 3 lb 11 oz 8 dm of roach and skimmer.

Other placings: 4. Tony Gilbert Melksham 2 lb 12 oz; 5. Jim Escott Melksham 2 lb 7 oz; 6. Steve Saunders Melksham 2 lb 4 oz.

COMPETITORS in the Calne Open match struggled, with the river at Hazeland high and coloured on Sunday and catches were below their best.

Martin Dolman, from Calne, took top honours with 6 lb 12 oz of roach and dace, with Nick Lofy, from Calne, runner up with 5 lb 12 oz of chub.

Pat Samuel, from Newbury, clinched third prize with 2 lb of roach.

Other placings: 4. Guy Manners Chippenham 1 lb 14 oz; 5. Gary Dodson Calne 1 lb 7 oz; 6. Richard Faithful Newbury 1 lb 5 oz 8 dm.

l SUNDAY’S Wilts Angling Open match at Todber Manor was won by Matt Skyrme, from Trowbridge, with 69 lb of carp.

A distant second was Gerry Lugg, from Beckington, with 48 lb 3 oz of carp, followed by Pete Neate, from Holt, with 38 lb 3 oz of carp.

Other placings: 4. Paul Gunning Trowbridge 31 lb 8 oz; 5. John Gardner Chippenham 28 lb 14 oz; 6. Dave Bancroft Trowbridge 23 lb 8 oz.

WITH the River Avon out of sorts, the Airsprung Open Pairs match was fished on the Kennet & Avon Canal at Airsprung and the Beehive stretch.

Martin Barrett, from Trowbridge, took top spot with 8 lb 10 oz of roach and skimmers , followed by Stuart White, from Chippenham, with 7 lb 14 oz of perch, roach and skimmers.

Lee Ross, from Trowbridge, was third with 7 lb 6 oz of roach and skimmers.

The Pairs prize went to Robin Guy, of Melksham, and White with three points.

Other placings: 4. Robin Guy Melksham 5 lb 0 oz; 5. Steve Martin Westbury 4 lb 4 oz; 6. Tony Gilbert Melksham 3 lb 10 oz.
