SWINDON Robins have completed their team for the new season with the signing of Danish rider Nicolai Klindt.

The 25-year-old is back at Blunsdon for a second spell having been named the club’s rider of the year during what proved a difficult 2011 season and now completes the Swindon top five along with Troy Batchelor, Peter Kildemand, Nick Morris and Simon Gustafsson Klindt was let go by both King’s Lynn and Peterborough during what proved a difficult 2013 season following the birth of his daughter at the start of the campaign, but the Wolverhampton asset believes a return to the Abbey Stadium could be the new start he needs.

“I’m very happy to be back and I wanted to be at Swindon in 2012 but unfortunately that wasn’t possible,” he told the Advertiser.

“As everyone knows I had one of my best seasons riding for Swindon in 2011, even though the team didn’t perform well, but for me it was a good year.

“Hopefully I will be able to pick up where I left off but I think I’ve only done one meeting there since I left because of injury. It’s one of my favourite tracks and when I get settled in again I’m sure I can pick up some vital points for the team.

“After I left Swindon things went a bit down hill and I found it hard coming back from injury in 2012, but I started fresh last year with a new mechanic but I had a little girls and then got sacked by both King’s Lynn and Peterborough and it felt as if the ball just kept rolling but I wasn’t able to stop it.

“I took a break and then joined Scunthorpe in the Premier League and I found my feet so hopefully I can start off again.”

Robins team manager Alun Rossiter believes Klindt could prove a trump card at the bottom of his top five and backed the Dane to begin to work his way back to his best form.

“I think he had a situation where he had his first child and I think things were not quite right,” he said. “We’ve spoken about it and he feels he’s ready and raring to go now.

“He’s not doubling up which is good for us and I’m sure he’ll make a big impact.”

Meanwhile, the Advertiser understands the Robins still expect Australian Nick Morris to begin the season with the club despite rumours about his future.

The teenager is thought to be considering his Elite League options after being dumped by his Premier League club Somerset, with Thursday track Sheffield or Glasgow both possible destinations.

The youngster is keen to race in both of Britain’s top two leagues as he continues his development and feels moving on from the Robins could be an option to allow him to do that.
