WINNING awards has become a family affair for a Melksham duo.
Ray Sissins and 16-year -old grandson Conner both won accolades in the Association of South West Motor clubs Autotest Cham-pionships.
Retired motorsport engineer Ray, 66, has been involved in most forms of motorsport and introduced his grandson to autotesting two years ago.
With a shared car, Ray won the regional championship outright, with Conner taking second place.
The Bath Motor Club pair contested the nine rounds across the South West in their 1400cc 16 valve Vauxhall Corsa.
Ray said: “I shall have to watch out as Conner has got the hang of autotesting quite quickly.
“We have also done well in the ACSMC (Association of Central Southern Motor Clubs) championship with a first and second place in the class, Conner also winning an award in the U21 title.
“We have done something Formula 1 probably will never do with a grandfather and grandson winning top places in the same year.”
Conner added: “I have picked up a lot from my grandfather and its been terrific fun taking part.”
Autotesting is the art of precision car control against the clock over a predetermined course.
Competitors are given a map of the route, showing the direction of travel (forwards or reverse) and various other manoeuvres such as 360 spin turns, reverse flicks, stop astride lines or slalom through a line of cones.
