RYAN Aldridge hailed the response of his players after they beat Sheffield home and away at the weekend.

The head coach issued his team with a 'do or die' challenge last week and 8-1 and 5-4 EPL triumphs - the latter after a penalty shootout - left the Link Centre boss in positive mood.

"I think the boys responded unreal on Saturday night and again tonight, it's a tough building to come and play in but we matched them in every area to win the hockey game," said Aldridge.

"Jan (Kostal) was outstanding tonight and Stevie Lyle made some huge saves in the shootout, and it was a good all-round performance.

"It was a great win, especially under the circumstances. They tied it up twice but we didn't press the panic button and went on to win.

"All-round I think we've had a great weekend and we've got to carry it on now."

On Saturday, Kostal bagged four goals and Aaron Nell a hat-trick as Wildcats destroyed the Steeldogs 8-1.

Nell, recently signed on a two-way from Elite League Sheffield Steelers, secured his third consecutive home treble in the rout.

Both Nell and Czech import Kostal have three hat-tricks for the season, while Ryan Watt weighed in with an effort of his own.

Greg Chambers scored the Steeldogs' solitary effort.

Swindon are next in action when they travel to Telford on Tuesday night.
