WARMINSTER started 2014 with a bang as they completed the league double over fourth-placed Wimborne 2nd The visitors dominated early on but Warminster took the lead against the run of play when an infringement in front of the posts allowed Jason Sprangle to kick the home side in front with a penalty.

Wimborne responded well and eventually got the try their play merited, the conversion being added.

Warminster improved as the half went on, second row Dave Bowman and replacement number eight Lewis Murphy carrying well, and Sprangle’s second penalty cut the gap to just a point.

The first home try followed as the ball reached first-team debutant Dai Frowen, who handed off an opponent and stepped inside the full-back to touch down, Sprangle adding the conversion.

Wimborne replied soon after with another score to trail by just a point at half time.

Play was halted in the second period as a Wimborne player suffered a broken ankle and couldn’t be moved until medical help arrived.

With the match move to an adjacent pitch, Warminster really took control as another barnstorming run from Frowen put him in the clear before he shipped the ball on to Herbelie Biscette who scored.

A third score followed as a backs move allowed fly-half Gavin Pratt to ghost through the defence for Sprangle to add the conversion.

The bonus-point score arrived as Biscette scored again after yet another clean break from Frowen.
