That's a wrap.
Another massive win for the cats. Might not have been pretty but we got the points and that's what matters. Great result! #wildcatslive— @Thomas_Graham92 14 January 2014
YEEEAAAH!!!!!! Well done lads!!! #wildcatslive— @HomTopper 14 January 2014
The next Ice Hockey Live will be on Saturday when Swindon travel to Coventry to play Milton Keynes. See you then.
Time for a swift jaunt downstairs. Full reaction in tomorrow's Adver. Many thanks for joining me.
LAST MINUTE WINNER FOR @SwinWildcats is this a streak or is this a streak. Bloody #GoCats #wildcatslive— @RoccoRichards 14 January 2014
Kostal is Swindon's man of the match.
@nedpayne1 GET IN!!!!! #wildcatslive— @chargingfungus 14 January 2014
That is the kind of game that it's great to find a way to win. Looked destined for OT.
Scott will be absolutely kicking himself.
Nell bags the winner out of nowhere and Swindon have their third straight victory for the first time this season. They go sixth in the EPL table.
Telford 1-2 Wildcats.
30 seconds. Ryan pulled.
Pekkarinen called for delay of game.
Time out Telford.
GOOOOOOOOOAL! Telford 1 Wildcats 2, 58.37
Nell robs the hesitant Scott on the blueline and has a straight run towards Ryan, whereupon he finishes low past the netminder's left pad.
@nedpayne1 Is the atmosphere as flat as the game? #wildcatslive— @chargingfungus 14 January 2014
Oh my. Miika Kiviranta is so close to a tap-in. As it happens, he ends up in the net himself, but that probably should have been Telford's second.
It's been a relatively trouble-free night for both netminders, in this period more than any I would say.
Sounds like everyone can have a nap! Wake me up in penalties!! Haha Come on Cats, get that spark going!! #wildcatslive— @Faithangeljoy 14 January 2014
Five minutes left.
If Sunday's game was Independence Day, tonight's is Pearl Harbor. Or the final 25 minutes of the Matrix trilogy.
Me and @x_amywilson think you deserve a burger..go treat yourself! CMON CATS #wildcatslive— @mjkane96 14 January 2014
Nine minutes left.
Pekkarinen sends a slapshot about three goals too high.
I think it's fair to say this game will not be remembered as a classic come the end of the season. Not by me, at any rate.
Sam Bullas from miles out. No goal.
Henri Sandvik sends a wrister the wrong side of the post.
There are 13 minutes left.
Just to clarify, I haven't gone for a burger. That would be highly unprofessional.
And the boy Whitfield has another crack. He's in acres of space but it's a fair way out and Ryan snaffles with his left glove.
If I go for a burger I bet the score won't have changed by the time I come back.
Smart double save from Ryan.
THIRD PERIOD UNDER WAY
Here come the players.
We will be back under way in around six minutes.
Swindon have 38 seconds of the penalty left to kill.
END OF SECOND PERIOD
Walker with Lyle at his mercy, tries to take it round him. Net moves. Whitfield called for interference.
Dare I say it, is this getting a bit dull?
Three minutes to go.
Stevie Whitfield of all people gets past halfway and has a go. Why not?
Five minutes left in the second.
Hoog charges down the left wing and tries the wristshot back across Ryan, which the Tigers man gloves.
Both teams look tired to me. There is a definite lack of intensity tonight.
Goooaaallll! Thats better!! Come on you Cats, pull it together and take control now :-) #wildcatslive— @Faithangeljoy 14 January 2014
Lyle saves well from Marek Mikusovic.
@SwinWildcats come on Cats!!! Can't afford to let up at all...come on you cats #wildcatslive— @swildcat 14 January 2014
GOAL! Telford 1 Wildcats 1, 29.04
Pekkarinen has a couple of cracks with the first being pawed away by Ryan. The puck comes back out to the Finn just inside the attacking zone and he finds a route to goal through traffic. It looked like it might have taken a nick on the way through but it's Pekkarinen's goal. Assists for Kostal and Sandvik.
Swindon have yet to wake up in this period.
Rick Plant nearly forces the puck home with his back to goal but Lyle sees it coming.
Wildcats have lost some of their fluidity. Surrendering possession far too easily.
Scott is a fraction away from making it 2-0. Just past the left post.
GOAL! Telford 1 Wildcats 0, 21.54
Everyone appears to be waiting for a call after a coming together, but play goes on and Callum Bowley centres the puck for Adam Walker to tap in with ease at the far post. Bryn Roberts also gets an assist.
Lyle gloves easily from Dan Scott's slapshot.
SECOND PERIOD UNDER WAY
The players are back.
Sounds a tame 1st period compared to the wkend but at least we are making the chances!! A goal will come if we keep attacking #wildcatslive— @Faithangeljoy 14 January 2014
When I said I wanted it to be quieter, I didn't say I wanted it to be 0-0. This needs to liven up.
Sounds like a decent first period. Keep creating chances and the goals will come. Shame we didn't score on the long pp though #wildcatslive— @Thomas_Graham92 14 January 2014
We will be back under way in 12 minutes.
Miller's penalty is a 5+game, by the way.
Well, that was pretty tame stuff by the end.
END OF FIRST PERIOD
Watt sits for slashing.
Four minutes left of the first period.
Wldcats looked more likely to score before the powerplay in all honesty.
Great effort from the Tigers. Frustration for Swindon.
Aku Pekkarinen's slapshot is nearly diverted in by Sam Bullas.
Michal Pavlu breaks away and fires low at near post, but Lyle blocks.
Swindon cycle it nicely but no breakthrough yet.
Five-minute penalty on Joe Miller for high-sticks on Alex Symonds.
Swindon look to have the cutting edge that Telford are missing right now. Still 0-0.
Ryan saves with the arm from Kostal.
Watt barrels his way through two Telford players but can't squeeze past Ryan.
Aaron Nell's slapshot can only find traffic.
Telford have just managed to hit the ceiling with the puck, which is quite an achievement.
I reckon Kostal has had three shots in 5.19. He looks keen.
Jonas Hoog in for Floyd Taylor by the net and he's a fraction away.
Telford have had most of the puck but Jan Kostal is the only guy shooting.
FIRST PERIOD UNDER WAY
Lyle has been patchy of late, but he was great on Sunday. Made some top saves.
In nets tonight are Stevie Lyle and Declan Ryan.
And here are the Tigers.
Here come the Wildcats players.
HE SAID WATT?
Ryan Watt isn't worried at the prospect of a third game in four nights this evening. In fact, he actively encourages it.
“I think that at the start of the season it would probably take its toll on the body a bit more, but because we’re in the middle of the season everyone’s game-fit now,” said Watt.
“I prefer to play games then practise anyway, and we just want to get a bit of confidence going.”
Good luck tonight @SwinWildcats 4pts is great but 6pts wld be phenomenal! Not another nailbiter or ill have none left! :-) #wildcatslive— @Faithangeljoy 14 January 2014
Swindon have won two and lost two against Telford this season. The Link Centre team lost the two most recent games, both by a single goal (1-0 and 7-6).
Don't forget to get your thoughts in using #wildcatslive
Good luck, wishing you all the best! #wildcatslive— @mrsbatchelor1 14 January 2014
Kuuluvainen was a constant problem for Swindon the last time these teams met. He had a great game.
Missing for Telford tonight are Timo Kuuluvainen, Dan Harrison, player-coach Tom Watkins and Macaulay Heywood
Confirmed that Smith is not playing.
Will be busy working so an early good luck wish for @nedpayne1 and #wildcatslive - bring home the points to make the shift worthwile!— @slapshot6032 14 January 2014
What a weekend! Lets get the result tonight! Lets go cats!!!!! #wildcatslive— @HomTopper 14 January 2014
We've had a bit of Bowling For Soup already tonight which took me right back to 1999. Great days.
SHORT AND SWEET
Tonight's Ice Hockey Live will be a smidge shorter than usual due to deadline constraints, I'm afraid. But fear not, I will give you the full beans until the buzzer so you won't miss a single minute of the action. I wouldn't leave you hangin'. You know that.
After his brief appearance on the ice on Sunday (mostly spent getting to know Andre Payette that little bit better), head coach Ryan Aldridge very much has his suit on again this evening. Finnish defenceman Aku Pekkarinen comes back in to replace Tomas Fojtik. Sam Smith bumped his head in training last week and missed the weekend, with tonight looking set to come too soon for him.
Very dubious 3G here tonight I'm afraid. Fingers crossed.
AARON ON A ROLL
Here's a few quotes from Aaron Nell, who has scored three hat-tricks in consecutive home games since arriving back at Wildcats on a two-way from Sheffield Steelers.
“Just one hat-trick would have been nice, but it’s been good,” said Nell.
“For me it’s always really easy to play with Jonas (Hoog) as he makes really good plays and Floydy (Floyd Taylor) was excellent on Saturday (when Swindon thrashed the Steedlogs 8-1).
“For someone that young to step in with me and Jonas, to do what he did and the fact he never stopped skating was great to see.”
THE BEST THINGS COME IN THREES
If Swindon take victory tonight then not only will it be the first time this season that they have won three in a row, they will also move to sixth in the EPL table. After all the doom and gloom flying about last week when Wildcats dropped out of the play-off spots altogether, that would make things a lot better. That said, it's worth noting that Telford would push Wildcats out of the play-off places into ninth if they win tonight.
Good evening all. Well, after the madness of Sheffield on Sunday (two fights in the first 20 seconds, coming back from two down to win via PSO), I'm expecting something slightly more sedate tonight. Probably. So, Telford vs Wildcats. Here we go.
