WOMEN'S RUGBY: Supermarine keep up run with Guildford win

SUPERMARINE Ladies maintained their hot winning streak with a 27-7 victory over Guildford Gazelles on Sunday.
With Guildford only fielding 14 players, Marine always had the benefit of an overlap and they made the most of their one-woman advantage to record a comfortable victory.
After just five minutes, fly-half Claire Legg nipped through the visitors’ defence and over the line, Natalie Williams adding the extras.
Guildford were pinned in their own half and Marine were using their superiority in the pack to their advantage. Prop forward Aileen Douglas burrowed over for the home side’s second try of the afternoon and her first for the club.
Guildford attacked well on occasion and used the pace of their backline to make up ground but they were outnumbered and it showed as they struggled to break through, though they managed to hold Marine to a 12-0 lead at half-time.
Marine’s third touchdown of the afternoon came shortly after the break, as number eight Hannah Sherratt powered over the whitewash.
The try sparked Guildford into a period of dominance, despite their limited numbers, and the visitors clawed their way back into the game with a score of their own out wide.
Marine’s numerical advantage was soon cancelled out following a sinbinning but the hosts still had time to score a fourth try of the afternoon as Bel Martin-Mulholland received the ball in the centres and found the gap to canter through to the line.
Supermarine are without a fixture this weekend as they prepare to make the trip to Henley next week.
