PROMOTED Potterne have been handed a plum start to life in the Wadworth 6X West of England League Premier Two division in May.

The villagers, who dramatically clinched the Glos/Wilts Division title by beating rivals Lechlade in a title showdown last August, will host fellow village side Goatacre in their opening game on May 3.

Potterne have signed former Gloucestershire ace Ed Young ahead of their 2014 campaign.

Right-hander Young, who has spent the winter in Australia, will help to spearhead the club’s batting having been released by the county last autumn.

Corsham’s bid for honours in Premier One will also start at home, as they host Taunton St Andrews at Station Road.

The side will be led by Pete Dennett, who led the club to top-four finishes in the 2009 and 2010 seasons.

Corsham have beefed up their squad during the winter, securing batting all-rounder Paul Robbins from Keynsham while 2014 Wiltshire captain Michael Coles has come back to the club after several seasons playing for Bridgwater.

Another old boy, Jonathan Parker, is also poised to return to the club.

In the Glos/Wilts Division, Chippenham will entertain Rockhampton on the opening day of the season, while Biddestone make the trip to Swindon.

The Wiltshire Division sees last year’s runners-up Burbage & Easton Royal hosting Calne, with Great Bedwyn and Marlborough also clashing on the opening day.

Marshfield host Winsley and Devizes go to Nationwide House.
