TROWBRIDGE & DISTRICT LEAGUE KNOCKOUT CUP: Lacock book semi-final spot

WITH the weather again causing disruption to both the league and cup fixtures, it was a relief that five matches actually survived.
This season's Chantry Digital Ltd-sponsored Knockout Cup is now behind schedule after the quarter-final ties between Castle Combe and Bradford United Reserves and United FC and Worton & Cheverell were lost to waterlogged pitches.
However the one cup tie that beat the elements saw third division leaders Holt FC host second division pole sitters and cup holders Lacock and it was the latter who came out on top in a thrilling game with a 4-1 victory to keep their hopes of retaining the trophy they won last term very much alive.
Lacock broke the deadlock thanks to a first goal of the season from Kevin Hodgkinson who scored from the penalty spot to make it 1-0 and the visitors to Holt doubled their lead before the break courtesy of a well-taken effort from Craig Burge.
The second period saw the hosts help in their own downfall when Owen Reece put through his own net to put Lacock 3-0 up.
Tom Wade pulled a goal back for Holt but it was just a consolation as Lacock sealed their win and booked a place in the semi-finals when Darrin Moss bagged their fourth of the afternoon.
MATCHES OFF: Castle Combe v Bradford United Reserves, United FC v Worton & Cheverell.
