BLUEBIRDS boss Mark Collier thinks that the importance of his side’s first victory of 2014 shouldn’t be downplayed.

Chippenham Town put an eight-match winless run behind them last weekend as they triumphed 2-1 over Weymouth, who are managed by goalkeeper Jason Mathews, who had a spell on loan with the Bluebirds in 2012.

Midfielder Rob Dean and young winger Corey King got the goals for Collier’s men and the Hardenhuish Park chief was delighted to see his side take all three points in torrential weather conditions at home.

“I don’t think that you can underestimate the importance of the three points on Saturday – we were the home team and needed a win to push us on to where we’d like to be,” said the Chippenham manager.

“To say the conditions were difficult is an understatement. They were awful in the second half of the first half and we were fortunate that they began to settle down a bit after half-time.

“But we did what we had to do and came away with a very good result.”

Chippenham are set to host St Neots Town, who are locked on 25 points with Collier’s men, but the Bluebirds chief doesn’t consider the clash a six-pointer.

Collier added: “I think that St Neots are in a bit of a false position at the moment and I don’t expect them to be down there come the end of the season.

“But we’re just looking at it as another game and another chance to get three points.

“The pitch was in good condition at the weekend – it was verti drained last week and I can’t see there being any problems over tomorrow night’s game, barring anything dramatic.”

Swindon Town defender Aaron Oakley returned to the heart of the Chippenham defence after re-joining the club on a further month’s loan whilst full-back Jack Allward has completed his move to Bridgwater Town.
