FROME Town are set to progress to the semi finals of the Somerset Premier Cup after SkyBet Championship side Yeovil Town revealed that they will not be fulfilling their last-eight encounter.

Facing a battle to stay in the Championship, the Glovers have pulled out of the competition, to the disappointment of Robins chairman Jeremy Alderman.

He said: “It's a massive loss financially to the club as there was a huge interest in this match from around the local area especially as there are plenty of people from Frome who do go and watch Yeovil on a regular basis so we are probably looking at a loss of around £4,000 from this one game alone through bar sales, gate receipts, sponsorships and other match day revenue”.

Yeovil have confirmed they will be sending a team to the AlderSmith Stadium for a pre-season friendly as a way of compensating Frome and Alderman added: “We can understand the issues Yeovil have at the moment and like any club, league status always has to be a priority.

"As they have no reserve side or youth team to help fulfil the fixture if, by withdrawing from the Premier Cup, it gives them an extra chance of staying in the Championship it will be the right decision for them and we wish them well in their retaining their status.

"A pre-season game is certainly a welcome gesture from them but obviously such games won’t be as well attended as this one would have been.''
