HOCKEY: Swindon secure late draw

AN IMPRESSIVE all-round team performance saw Swindon secure a well-earned 2-2 draw away at second placed Cheltenham.

The Wiltshire side had the chance to grab all three points in the Championship fixture but in the end were lucky to secure a draw.

Against the run of play, Cheltenham took the lead mid-way through the first half when a dubious call from the umpire allowed the Gloucestershire side through to open the scoring.

Swindon were able to draw level late in the second half thanks to a deflection from Henry Cheney off a Tom Wickens pass into the area.

The last five minutes of the contest proved to be the most exciting as the hosts nudged ahead once again with only three minutes left on the clock.

Just when it looked as though Swindon would be going home pointless, Cheney again got the final touch as he diverted home a penalty corner with only a few seconds left on the clock, securing a point.

Swindon were missing midfield star Chris Parsons in a game they had chances to win and, after putting in what was their best display of the season, will go into the match against Robinsons A this weekend full of confidence.
