CHIPPENHAM soothed their relegation fears with a 3-2 success over fellow Davis Wood League Central One strugglers Firebrands B on Saturday.
The home side dominated the majority of the first half, only for a defensive lapse to allow the Bristol visitors to take the lead.
Parity was restored as Selwyn Widger found space in the D to find the bottom corner.
Firebrands’ pressure at the start of the second half proved enough to earn them their second goal and Chippenham’s cause suffered further as Benjamin Candlin was shown a yellow card.
His return though helped the hosts equalise again, Luke Morris being denied by a foul and Mark Knight levelling with the resulting penalty flick.
With a draw looking likely, Simon Walker and James Grantham combined for Knight to touch home from Andy Edwards’ drive.
Leaders Devizes suffered a setback in their bid as they were beaten 3-2 by Robinsons B, Mike Greenman and Callum Lavens on target for the visitors.
There was also a crucial win for Marlborough in their battle to beat the drop in Conference North as they defeated Newent 3-2.
Early home pressure brought its reward as Anil Sud dispatched a penalty flick.
With Newent struggling, Marlborough pressed home their advantage and Su doubled his side’s lead from a well-worked penalty corner.
With a man of the match display from goalkeeper Brian Marnane, the home side kept a resurgent Newent at bay until the second half when they halved the deficit.
But Marlborough continued to play with poise, patience and purpose and restored their lead following another short corner which was slid home from a tight angle by midfielder John Bromley.
Newent grabbed another late goal but Marlborough closed out a vital victory.
Wootton Bassett soared to another thumping victory at the head of affairs in East Central One as they annihilated Chippenham B 15-0.
Kyle Barnes led the rout with eight goals, Mark Turner scoring a hat-trick, while a double for Kristian Mansfield and strikes from Mark Skivington and Matt Daniell rounded it off.
Wootton Bassett bowed out of the NOW: Pensions Men’s National Vase as they lost 5-3 to Camberley & Farnborough on Sunday.
Kyle Barnes twice and Tom Pointing netted for the Wiltshire men.
