PROMOTION from Dorset & Wilts 1 North is there for the taking for Supermarine despite the fact they currently sit fifth in the table, according to coach Sean Millwaters.
The South Marston side have consistently been part of a congested group at the top of the table throughout the season but have slipped back in recent weeks due to the fact their fixtures have been claimed by the weather and their impressive runs in cup competitions.
Marine have two games in hand on their rivals immediately above them and going into this weekend’s home game with Pewsey Vale, Millwaters believes his side are the masters of their own destiny.
“I think it’s there for us to win to be honest and if we can win the two games in hand we have we can go top of the league, while bonus point wins would take us two points clear,” he said.
“We still have all the teams to play as well because we have to play Bradford and Chippenham at our place and we have to go to Trowbridge, so it’s there for us really.
“It’s the same thing for us now, going week by week, because we’re thinking about Pewsey now given that’s our next game.
“If we keep taking one game at a time and tick those off as we go we will be there at the end.”
Pewsey have a formidable home record but are not so good on their travels meaning Millwaters is expecting a bonus point victory this weekend.
“They always seem to be stronger at home than they are away because they seem to have a contingent of army lads who play at home but simply don’t travel with them for away games,” he said.
“It’s like any game where we’re favourites and we should really be looking for a bonus point win, but if we don’t turn up and bring our best then anything can happen.
“I’m not over confident but I do believe we will come away with a win. Most of the team we had playing at the weekend is available this weekend so that’s good.
“We know it’s going to be wet, and we know it’s going to be windy, so the team which dominates the breakdown best and plays to the conditions who will get the win.”
