SWINDON Flames Youth opened their 2014 campaign with a comfortable 12-4 victory over Tricky Trixsters on the opening day of the new season.

Young peewee netminder Mali Easton was thrust into the competition on her debut as a late withdrawal meant that she was the only stopper available but she did well and was well protected by her defence who ensured that she did not face too many shots.

The Swindon side started strongly and Liam Coleman (2) and Harry Llewellyn soon put them well in control before the Trixsters reduced the deficit with 10 minutes of the opening period remaining. Harry Gobey and Coleman again extended the Flames lead before the Trixtsters again replied. Charlie Browning scored the final goal of the opening period.

In the second half the pattern was repeated with the Flames exerting their control and Coleman (2), Ethan Easton and an own goal extended the Swindon side’s lead as the Trixsters frustration saw them penalised with some minor penalties. A touch of complacency eventually crept into the Flames game which allowed the Oxfordshire side to register two goals within a minute before they closed out the game with further goals from Llewellyn and Browning.

With Oliver Dunsmore and Easton both making their debuts and another peewee player in Joseph Llewellyn also playing his part, it was a most satisfactory way to begin the season.

Swindon Flames are always looking to recruit new members at all levels and are especially seeking new members for the newly formed peewee (under 12) team. Training is held weekly at the Link Centre on Saturdays from 10am-11am under the guidance of GB ice hockey coach Mark Beggs.
