HOME player Andy Taylor gets the first crack at earning himself a cash boost when he takes on World Bowls Tour qualifier Danny Dennison in this weekend’s Clarrie Dunbar open singles tournament.

Taylor has been drawn to face the Torquay United player, the highest ranked in the Standerwick club’s event, an honour which puts a £50 bounty of Dennison’s head.

Clarrie’s Taylor has first crack at winning the cash as 64 players compete for the title over two days starting tomorrow (Saturday).

The event is one of 26 open singles events on the planetbowls circuit, with points from the tournament contributing to the national ranking list.

The top 32 ranked players then play in the Grand Final tournament for the overall PlanetBowls Title at Boston in October.

Also at the Clarrie event will be world number two Rob Paxton, from Taunton Deane, as well as champions from other PlanetBowls tournaments, including Westlecot (Swindon winner Brian Lees (Welford on Avon), Barwell champion Shaun Jones (Malvern Hills) and Camberley Open winner Nick Revell (Five Rivers, Salisbury).

2013 Grand Final runner up Scott Edwards (Adur, Hove) and England International and Commonwealth Games bronze medallist; Sian Gordonwill also feature.

Clarrie’s own 2010 Commonwealth Games bronze medallist Graham Shadwell is also in the field.

Matches will be played in a sets format, each match consisting of two sets of seven ends, with a three-nd tiebreaker being played in the event of a draw.

Prize money totalling £2250 is also up for grabs, thanks to sponsorship from Jumping Jacks Bowls Shop located at the Clarrie club, Taylor Bowls and Timber & Allied Services, of Westbury.
