BLUEBIRDS captain Alan Griffin predicts Chippenham Town won’t be in for another Jekyll and Hyde campaign next season.

The striker, who scored his 15th goal of the season against Bashley last weekend, claims his club have a distinct plan for the future and is targeting a positive last third of the current season to use as a springboard.

“Obviously, it’s been a bad season for us but we’re just building for next year and looking to get as many wins as we can to get some momentum going in to next season,” said Griffin.

“I know that Mark (Collier) and Tom (Jones), and certainly Neil (Blackmore, chairman) and John (Applegate, former chairman), have got a clear idea of what they want to do next year and we don’t want to be down at the bottom of the table.

“With the players we’ve got and with a few more coming in during the summer, we'll be in the right half of the table and getting the club back to where it belongs.

“There was a period where players were coming in and players were going, and it was always going to be a tricky time for any team.

“It’s settled down now and the lads know how each other plays – we’re getting into a style of play that suits us, even though it’s taken some time. We’ve got 12 games left and we’ll be looking to pick up five or six wins to give us confidence for next season.

“I’m confident we can do that because we’ve got games against teams around us but to be fair, we’re more than capable of beating anyone on our day.”

James Guthrie, who was also on target against Bashley, misses this Saturday’s clash with Burnham as he begins a two-match ban.

But midfielder Iain Harvey returns after a lengthy spell on the sidelines with a hamstring injury.

Meanwhile, last weekend’s cash-strapped opponents Bashley could fold at the end of the season, with a vote due on the New Forest club’s future next month.
