HIGHWORTH Town manager John Fisher is calling on the authorities to look again at how players in the Hellenic League serve their suspensions.

Defender Chris Flanagan and striker Toby Clark are two games into three-match bans following their dismissals in the 2-0 victory at Thame United on December 28.

However, because the inclement in the weather the pair are still ineligible for tomorrow’s trip to Flackwell Heath in the third round of the Bluefin Sports Challenge Cup.

And the Town chief would like to see a change in the rules.

“It needs to be looked at,” Fisher said. “The lads have had three-match bans from a sending-off in December and here we are heading into March.

“A three-match ban never used to be a problem because you’d play Saturday-Tuesday-Saturday and the player would be available again.

“Maybe it could be something like a ban of three matches or 28 days, whichever was the quicker.”

The Elms side have not kicked a ball in anger since January 21 and Fisher is hopeful that his team can finally get a match, while Flackwell defeated Abingdon United 3-0 last weekend.

“Flackwell played at home last weekend so hopefully we can get a match,” the Highworth manager said. “It has been a disaster the last few weeks.

“I expect their fitness levels to be greater than ours and it is a bit like we have had to do a pre-season all over again.”

With Highworth sitting in fifth place in the Premier Division, Fisher is targeting success in the cup for his team.

“If we were to win the league we would need to win at least 10 out of 12 matches,” he said. “So this is something that we can look at winning.

“Flackwell will be thinking the same so it would have been useful for us to have had a league before this.”

When Town last visited the High Wycombe-based side on October 19 they slumped to a 4-0 defeat and the Highworth boss is eager for his players to put the record straight.

“They have beaten us twice already this season and the last one they gave us a bit of a going over,” Fisher said.

“I’m hoping that my players remember that match and look to put it right on Saturday.”
