Bassett are heading the right way
ROYAL Wootton Bassett coach Alan Low thinks his side our starting to understand the direction he wants them to go in.
Low’s men face Alchester this Saturday coming off the back of a big win over Milton Keynes last weekend. Surprisingly given the 47-6 scoreline it was a performance Low wasn’t happy with as he demanded better execution from his players.
Bassett are currently eighth in Southern Counties North and a win could move them above seventh placed Drifters who are on the same points total.
Low is looking to the next season now relegation issues are pretty much over. He feels his team is getting to know him better and he wants to show more what his Bassett are about.
“We’re not looking at promotion next season, we’re looking for top four or five,” Low told the Advertiser.
“We’re all about setting standards and improvement this year. The progression mentality is something that me and coaching the team have been trying to instil into them.
“It’s taken half a season for them to realise how the coaches want the game played, but they’re getting there.”
Alchester gave the Ballard’s Ash side a tough game earlier in the season. Bassett carved out an ugly win in Oxfordshire and Low is not expecting an easy game despite the opposition’s low league position.
He said: “It’ll be quite tight with Alchester, we went up there and had a tough battle, we’re expecting it to be tough up front.
“Massive game for us because of the league places. We want to finish the season strong.
“At the start of the season if we lost it was a case of let’s go onwards and upwards.
“What we’ve started focussing on is our performance and our performance only.”
