WARMINSTER slumped to their second successive defeat at Sherborne 2nd.

In near-perfect conditions, the visitors started well, disrupting the Sherborne lineout with skipper John McCredie leading from the front.

However, they were unable to make use of their possession, Sherborne being ighning-quick at the breakdown.

Warminster almost scored when centre Alex Payne’s pass came off the fingertips of scrum-half Jason Sprangle, denying winger Reece Smith a first try for the club.

Smith was not to be denied though, finishing off an excellent team move after a break in the midfield from tighthead prop Steve Rowbotham saw him ship the ball onto the supporting Payne and second row Toby Wicks continued the move and produced the scoring pass out of the back of his hand.

Sherborne hit back before half time as Warminster’s defence was caught napping on the blindside and the conversion took them into the lead.

Warminster lost fly-half Gavin Pratt to injury at half time, Payne moving across and second row Dave Bowman going to centre.

But Sherborne started the brighter and increased their lead almost immediately with a penalty.

Then a scrum in the centre of the of the Warminster 22 saw the home side break out to score their second try.

Warminster lost hooker Dan Woods to injury, forcing coach Rob Rowbotham into an emergency appearance.

Rowbotham was later denied a try and was sin-binned in the dying moments for backchat to the referee, for which he later apologised.
