KICKBOXING: You belter, Annabelle

This Is Wiltshire: Annabelle Shoob, the new WRSA Pro-Am English title holder Annabelle Shoob, the new WRSA Pro-Am English title holder

KICKBOXER Annabelle Shoob is hoping her fight career is back on track after she clinched her biggest-ever title last weekend.

The 20-year-old has endured a difficult past few years in the ring but after being taken under the wing of governing body the World Ring Sports Association (WRSA) and switching her training from Bristol’s Highlanders club to the UKCBA gym in Evesham, Shoob laid down a marker by claiming her third WRSA Pro Am title.

Despite giving away almost four kilos in weight, Shoob, who lives in Patchway in Chippenham, beat Tamworth Kickboxing Academy’s Tori Willetts on points to seal the WRSA Pro Am English title at 57.5kg at Worcester’s Perdiswell Leisure Centre.

“It was make or break for me really because I’ve had a few years where things haven’t gone right for me and if I didn’t win this one, it would have set me back,” said Shoob, who has previously won the WRSA Midlands Area and Southern Area amateur titles.

“When I was at the Bristol club, I was fighting all of the time and not giving my body the chance to recover. I fought for the British and Commonwealth Pro Am titles but I wasn’t prepared for them and ended up losing.

“About nine months ago, I explained the situation to Steve and Annie Humphrey, who run the WRSA, and they agreed to take me on and get me training in Evesham.

“The other girl was over the weight last weekend but I didn’t want to let down the people that had bought tickets to watch me so I just took the fight – she got me with a few good shots but I won all five rounds.”

Shoob works part-time as a waitress at Guyers House Hotel in Corsham and is sponsored by DS Smith Packaging, of Devizes, and Chippenham Royal cue club.

The Wiltshire kickboxer, who began fighting at Chippenham’s Spartans gym, is on the lookout for new sponsors. For information email a.s1994@hotmail.co.uk or kev.shoob@hotmail.co.uk.
