TROWBRIDGE coach Steve Ojomoh insists the conclusion to his side’s league campaign is “all about making statements’’ as they chase promotion.

The former Bath and England man was away and missed last weekend’s mauling of Wimborne, but believes it laid an important marker down as the campaign reaches its decisive phase.

Trowbridge can clinch at least a promotion play-off with victory over Dorchester at home tomorrow, with Walcot and leaders Wells rounding off the regular season.

“It’s important we made a statement because Wim-borne are a very good side,’’ said Ojomoh.

“These players have come a long way since last season and it’s important for us to show the leaders (Wells) how far we’ve come since they beat us at the start of the season.’’

Trowbridge will travel to Guildford for their RFU Intermediate Cup semi final on Easter Saturday after the Surrey side’s victory in the London/South East competition at the weekend.

Guildford defeated Ealing’s Old Priorians 28-15 on Saturday to set up the national semi-final against Ojomoh’s men on April 19.

The draw for home advantage in the last-four clash was made last week with the London/South East representative earning the right to host the tie.

The winners will play Northern Division winners Aspatria or Midlands winners Leek in the final at Twickenham in May.

Ojomoh added: “One thing with Trowbridge is that home or away has never fazed them.

“They’ve always risen to the challenge and I’m sure they’ll do it again.’’

Trowbridge put in one of their best performances of the season against Wim-borne, with a hat-trick of tries from Jackson Szabo and a brace apiece for player-coach Dan Smith and Ashley Chalk.

Szabo twice, Joe Knight, Shane Johnstone, Ashley Chalk and Smith crossed the whitewash in the first half, Lloyd Davis adding five conversions.

Chalk added his second try and Davis converted before Wimborne responded with a score through Ollie Hamer and a successful conversion from Tom Moysey.

The home side sent Szabo in for his third try under the posts, with Davis again adding the extras.

The best was saved until last, as Trowbridge forwards and backs combined in a move that saw Barry Coombs score what had to be the try of the game, Davis adding the extras.
