RAYCHEM made the short journey to Pinehurst knowing a win was vital to continue their push towards promotion to Regional League 1 and they acheived their target, beating their local rivals 58-31.

Raychem’s Jenny Gray and Pinehurst's Laura Barrat exchanged goals in the early minutes, with Barrat’s backline drives proving difficult for the Raychem defence to deal with.

However, at the other end Gray’s positional play was outstanding despite the close attention of goalkeeper Rachel Worthington.

Raychem continued to look after the ball and bring it safely through the court, and the defence started to break down the Pinehurst attack.

Inspirational Raychem goal attack Kelly Morgan built on previous weeks’ performances and, although Pinehurst’s Paige Burton had an outstanding game against her, Morgan’s driving runs at times sliced open the Pinehurst defence.

As the game went on, Raychem's strong defence and accurate shooting came to the fore and they eased to victory.

In the final game of the season on Saturday, Raychem host unbeaten league champions Hucclecote A knowing a single point will secure promotion. Pinehurst travel to Gloucester to play Hucclecote B.

Coincidentally, the two clubs’ junior teams also met at the weekend in the final match of the regional U16 league.

The Raychem team started strongly and finished three goals up after the first quarter, and strong defence in the second from Hayley Gough and Lauren Hewitt saw Raychem extend that lead to eight by half time.

Wing attack Laura Young created lots of space for goal attack Ayren Walker and centre Amy Corrie to utilise, meaning the feed to the outstanding goal shooter Sarah Angell was controlled and accurate.

The final score was 48-38 to Raychem and player of the match was Sarah Angell.

In Regional League 3, Abbey Meads and Lawn B met, with the hosts looking for the victory which would secure a top-two finish and promotion.

Abbey took the early advantage as Lawn B’s young team struggled with the height and ability of goal shooter, Chrissie Lewis, with the first quarter score 20-11.

The second quarter was more even, as Lawn settled into the match, and at half-time Abbey were up 30-19.

Abbey changed their team for the third quarter and put Lawn firmly back on the ropes, with Kate Norton-Hewins firing in the goals to give Abbey a 54-25 lead by the break. The final quarter was again a one-sided affair with Abbey stretching their lead to 80-31 at the close, a victory which saw the victors promoted with one match to spare.

In Swindon & District League Division Two, Abbey Meads B edged out Raychem B 38-35.

Raychem led 10-8 at the end of the first quarter and 19-17 at half-time, but Emma Uhquhart in attack scored for fun for the hosts in the second half to help guide her side to victory.
