SUPERMARINE boss Dave Webb believes his side may need as many as 78 points to secure their place in the Southern League Division One South & West play-offs.

The South Marston side currently sit third in the table on 60 points with nine games left to play, but should really have added another three to their tally on Saturday but went down 3-0 to bottom side Fleet in a shock loss.

Marine will be looking to put things right when they host Evesham tonight and Webb knows their margin for error is ever shrinking.

“We’ve made it a little more difficult for ourselves after Saturday but we still have nine games to go and a lot of football left to play,” he said.

“I think we probably need in the region of 78 points to make sure of our place and three of them should have come on Saturday.

“We never make things easier for us but we have chances to put in right this week.

“We can’t have another Fleet game if we want to get ourselves into the play-offs, we don’t have that luxury.”

Evesham may sit in the bottom third of the table but Webb knows the Worcestershire side will be coming to the Webb’s Wood Stadium in confident mood, looking to gun down one of the league’s promotion chasing sides.

“I went and watched them play Cirencester recently and they’re a good side,” he said.

“They use it in wide areas and have some good forwards on which they base their success and they’re on the back of a win from the weekend.

“They will come and give us a game and if you heard the Fleet dressing room after the game on Saturday it was like they’d won the league.

“That’s the problem when you are where we are, teams come and want to beat you because we’re there to be shot down.

“We have to deal with our success, all the top clubs too, and we need to work on that.”

Meanwhile, Cirencester Town will look to get their quest for the title back on track when they host Tiverton Town.

The Centurions have been stuttering of late falling to a 1-0 defeat to Marine before being held to a goalless draw with North Leigh.

Veteran striker Jody Bevan could be rested for tonight’s clash after he fell ill at the end of Saturday’s match.
