CHIPPENHAM were nudged closer to the relegation trapdoor despite a battling display on Saturday.

Danny Thomas’ men need to win their final three matches – starting away at champions-elect Lydney who need one more victory for the title on Saturday – and hope other results go their way.

Home side Worcester won for the first time in 2014 as the Wiltshire men suffered their 19th defeat in 23 matches.

Chippenham were comfortable in defence in the opening stages and missed an early penalty to take the lead, while Wanderers missed two shots at goal.

The visitors grabbed the lead when a blindside move allowed Jon Squire over for the score, full-back Sam Saunders landing a tricky touchline conversion.

Both sides were reduced to 14 men by yellow cards, Ben Riley cooling his heels for ten minutes for Chippenham, before number eight Bobby Lyons was also sin-binned for failing to release the ball.

Wanderers drew level as Tom Dodge went over out side, Tom Biggs adding the conversion.

Chippenham continued to defend well in the second half but another yellow card hampered their progress and Russ Marsland ploughed over for Worcester’s second try, converted by Biggs.

The away side responded with a fine spell but were unable to break through and Kieran Morris’ try, Biggs converting, wrapped it up for the hosts.
