RUGBY: Warminster 14 North Dorset 2nd 10
2:30pm Tuesday 25th March 2014 in Sport
WARMINSTER took a firmer grip on fifth place in Dorset & Wilts One South as they narrowly got the better of their closest rivals.
The first quarter was played at a frenetic pace, blighted by errors from both sides but Warminster gained more territorial advantage through the runs of winger Reece Smith.
The first score came after centre Rob Bell went on a trademark run but was stopped just 10 metres out . Dorset killed the ball at the ensuing ruck and Jason Sprangle kicked Warminster into the lead from the penalty.
The visitors hit back almost immediately with the first try of the game, as Sprangle’s pass hit the deck and them Gavin Pratt failed to gather, allowing the visitors to pounce on the loose ball for a half-time lead.
The second half did not start well for the amber and blues either as Dorset scored their second try with just five minutes gone, although the relatively simple conversion hit the posts.
Warminster rolled up their sleeves and clawed their way back into the game.
Full back Sam Couch, moved inside after an injury to Bell, cut a beautiful line through the Dorset defence to set up the position from which Sprangle kicked a second penalty after a Dorset infringment.
A further Sprangle kick cut the gap to a point and, ten minutes from time, Warminster grabbed the winning score.
Scrum ball was spun along the line to try machine Herbeline Biscette, who finished the move in style to secure the points.
WESTBURY were awarded all five points from their clash with East Dorset, who were unable to raise a side.
