COTSWOLD Flyball Club are on the hunt for a sponsor as they prepare to embark on the most exciting season in their history.

Flyball is a team sport for dogs, in which teams of four, plus up to two reserves, compete in a relay race over four jumps to retrieve a ball from a box. It is the fastest growing dog sport in the country.

The Cotswold club, the holder of two national titles, now boasts almost 50 dogs and have recently invested more than £1 000 of their own funds on an electronic flyball timing and light system imported directly from America to help boost training and performance for 2014.

The outdoor season starts with a nationally accredited tournament at Acremead, Didcot, this weekend, with Cotswold sending more than 30 dogs and six teams to compete, including eight making their debuts.

The event will be the start of the build-up to the National Championships held over three days in August.

They will be spearheaded by the club’s top team, the Cyclones, featuring dogs Rocky, Tammi and Poppi, Flynn and Dexter.

The team recently gave some of the country’s top teams a fright in a recent indoor tournament, only losing to the country’s third-ranked team.

The Typhoons include dogs Cerys, Rona, Reuben, Dylan and Scrumpy, while the Zephyrs feature Boo, a whippet returning from a broken leg, Woody, Mist, Lexie and Mopp.

The Sciroccos boast Evie, Jasper, Chops and Pera, while the Sundownershave Kelli, Jack, Heckla, Moss and Lexie.

Cotswold’s Novice team includes Darragh, Rosie, Belle, Poppet and Poppy.

The Cotswold club currently train on Thursdays at 6.30pm at Dairy Farm, Long Newnton, just north of Malmesbury. See cotswoldflyballclub.webs.com for more information.
