ALAN Low wants his Royal Wootton Bassett team to show how far they have come under his stewardship as they face High Wycombe for the first time since September.

In that game, Bassett’s season opener, at High Wycombe, the hosts put 66 points on Bassett, the second highest they have conceded this season.

As the season has progressed the gap between to the two teams has become considerably narrower. A bonus point win for Bassett tomorrow would bring High Wycome within three points, hardly a gap indicative of a sizeable gulf in quality between the sides.

Low described the first game of the season as a tough day at the office for him and his side but thinks his team is now more than capable of avenging that defeat.

“The squad have come on a hell of a lot,” said Low, “I left that day very disappointed as well, I’d been talking about getting our performance right and that day we didn’t get it right, they are a good side on the front foot.

“We’re looking to reverse that scoreline if I’m in honest to show how far we’ve come. I really do that think we can reverse that scoreline.”

Bassett will be hoping to benefit from the return of some big names who have been absent recently, including captain Tim Gallimore, as well as Duncan Fulling. Though Will Hooper, Dave Marchant, Drew Blinkhorn and Phil Bardwell could all be missing.

For Low and Bassett there is a bit more than pride and a modicum of revenge on the line tomorrow. Any momentum picked up now can be taken into next season and Low will not be turning his nose up at the prospect of finishing of fourth.

“We’re in a much better place than we were at the start of the year, as a club there’s quite a bit still to play for. If we win these two games well there’s a possibility we could finish fourth. Over the 12 months that’s not probably a fair refection of how well we’ve played but since Christmas time it is. Though there’s fair bit still to do.

“We’ve said these last few weeks of the season we’ve really got to take into pre-season, that’s our maker, we want to hit the ground running in September.”

Elsewhere in the division, Swindon College Old Boys travel to Reading Abbey for their penultimate match.
