COUNTING his Easter eggs will be the furthest thing from Ramsbury nine year Caspar Stephenson's mind this weekend, as he prepares for his second racecourse appearance in just three days at the Charles Stanley Point-to-Point and Country Day on Easter Bank Holiday Monday at Lockinge.

Caspar and his pony, Polbourne Riverdance, will be taking part in the first of two pony races that will proceed six further thoroughbred races at the Oxfordshire spectacle, which is widely regarded as one of the most popular point-to-point fixtures in the country.

The pony racing duo are also have taking part in the Pony Racing at Cheltenham on the Good Friday.

Pony Racing is for children aged between nine and sixteen years of age and ponies measuring under 148cm.

Caspar, who has designed his own silks for the occasion said: “I am so excited I can’t wait for Monday. Fudgie (Polbourne Riverdance) is fast so I have renamed him Fudgie Frankel.’’ At the entries stage on Monday 14 April, 75 runners featured across the six point-to-point races.

Gates open from 9.30am and entertainment starts at 11.15am and includes a hound parade, falconry display, pony racing and Easter Egg hunt.

A variety of trade-stands including locally produced food will also feature.

The point-to-point is an important fundraiser for the Old Berks Hunt, which dates back to 1830 in its present form but hosted its first race at the current Lockinge location in 1953, just a few weeks before the Queen’s Coronation.

Gates open at the course two miles south east of Wantage from 9am, with entertainment starting at 11.15am. Pony racing is at 12.30pm, with the first race at 2pm.
