SWINDON Robins suffered their second defeat in a day to Poole Pirates as the visitors claimed a thrilling 47-45 success at the Abbey Stadium.

The Robins came into the second-leg requiring to overturn a 22-point deficit if they were to win the Elite Shield.

But what they required even more than the 22 points was a restoration of pride after only managing to secure one heat win on the south coast in the morning.

Poole were given a boost prior to the second leg of the double header when Shamek Pawlicki was given the all-clear by the doctors to race despite his crash in the morning meet which left him requiring hospital treatment.

Chris Holder continued from where he left off in Poole to claim another victory for the Pirates with Peter Kildemand unable to catch the flying Aussie in the opening heat of the night.

Benji Compton got off to a flying start to win on his first ride for the Robins, however, Dan Greenwood unable to hold on for second in heat two for 3-3.

Troy Batchelor eased home for a second win on the night for the Robins with Simon Morris holding off Pawlicki to claim a maximum for the Robins.

Josh Grajczonek led from start to finish for the Pirates as his team-mate Stefan Nielsen retired with mechanical problems in heat four.

Kildemand made it a third win for Robins as they got a paid maximum to open up a 19-11 lead on the night.

Batchelor nearly fell on the opening lap of heat six but battled back well to claim second as Holder secured another success.

Klindt got off to a fine start in heat seven and led all the way with Compton doing a great job keeping Nielsen at bay for another paid maximum for the hosts to make it 26-16.

With visitors trailing by 10, Neil Middleditch sends Grajczonek out for a tactical ride and he took the chequered flag after some great work from Pawlicki.

Things continue to go badly for the Robins as Poole’s Nielsen and Smart led them to another paid maximum, while Compton retired on the opening lap in heat, while in heat 11, Klindt’s struggles continued as he retired with mechanical issues with Pawlicki taking the chequered flag for the visitors who opened up a 33-30 on the night.

Batchelor led from start to finish in heat 11 as Robins gained a narrow 35-34 lead on the night, but Grajczonek takes the flag in the following heat for the visitors, while Janowski leads the way in heat 13 to open up a 42-39 lead.

It was the tale of the falls in the penultimate heat as both Gustafsson, in the first attempt, and then Smart crash leaving Milik to cruise home for a predictable win for the visitors.

Batchelor took the win in the final heat but it was not enough for Robins to take the win on the night as Pirates emerged 47-45 winners.
