SWINDON Supermarine manager Dave Webb believes that his side can win their final two matches of the season after disposing of league-leaders Merthyr Town on Saturday.

The Webb’s Wood Stadium side head to Guildford City full of confidence following the 1-0 success over the Martyr’s courtesy of a Josh Morse header.

And while Supermarine remain just outside the play-off places, Webb knows that his team must keep the pressure on Shortwood United, who visit title-chasing Cirencester Town, and Paulton Rovers, who entertain Mangotsfield United.

“Saturday was a fantastic day,” Webb said. “It was the first time during my time at the club that we have beaten Merthyr.

“They are a top, top team, but we were excellent and if we can show the same attitude and commitment at Guildford I sure that we will be fine.

“To be honest I have every confidence of my team winning the last two games and hopefully Shortwood and Paulton will drop points.”

The victory over Merthyr was sealed in the 13th minute when Morse got free at the back post to head home a tantilising cross from Bradley Gray.

But Webb knew that he was taking a calculated risk at the weekend when he only featured three at the back following their previous game where they conceded four goals.

“Not many teams play 4-4-2 these days,” he said. “The danger is when you have four at the back you get over run in midfield.

“I wanted us to be positive and have a real go at Merthyr and that is why I went with Bradley and Josh as wing-backs.

“Now we need to take this momentum from Saturday into the game at Guildford.”

The victory over the Martyrs allowed Cirencester to leap to the summit as they defeat ed Mangotsfield 3-2.

But Webb is expecting a couple more twists before the end of the season.

“It is an exciting time at the moment,” said the Marine boss, whose side entertain Bishops Cleeve on Saturday for their final game of the campaign.

“There will be a couple more twists before the end, both in the race for the title and the play-offs.

“What we can’t do is slip-up because there won’t be anytime to put it right.

“I said earlier in the season that we’d probably need around 78 points to make the play-offs.

“If we win our remaining two games that would take us to 81 and that might not be enough.

“All we can do is win our games, score a few goals to boost our goal difference and hope that the others slip-up.”
