SWINDON judoka Steph Walker has been selected in the England judo squad to travel to the Czech Republic next month.

The 16-year-old, who is a student at Kingsdown School, has been picked in a 17-strong team to fight in the 52kg category on May 10.

Walker has caught the selectors’ eye with a series of high-ranking tourament success in 2014, including a bronze medal at the Midlands Open, gold at the Northern Home County Open, silver in the under 17 Irish Open, gold in the under 21 section of the same event and silver in the over 21s.

She has also self-funded a trip to the Euro Cup in Crotata, where she won four of her six fights to finish seventh out of 55 entrants, and took the prize scalp of a French Youth Olympic champion.
