BEN Wakeley was the star of Ogbourne Downs’ Junior Open as he collected the main title, the Liddiards Plate.
The 28-handicapper from Broome Manor managed superb nett score of 64 which saw him crowned champion and he was presented with his award from Ladies’ Captain Shirley Solomon.
Broome Manor’s Tom Law was another junior to find his form around the fairways as he collected the best gross score.
Law, who plays off two, carded an impressive round of one-under par.
Max Cheesley was also in the prizes as he was placed in both the gross and nett events.
Cheesley’s fine performance saw him collect the John Waite Memorial Trophy for the best gross score by an Ogbourne player.
Ogbourne Downs’ general manager John Edwards was delighted with how the day went, saying: “A big thank you is owed to our sponsor of 11 years, Rob Dunn, who previously lived in the village but now travels down from Liverpool each year to support the event.
“I would also like to thank Sean James (junior committee) for his in-depth planning, Ladies Captain Shirley Solomon and Claire Waite for presenting the prizes.
“I’d like to also thank Dick Solomon for assisting at registration, Peter Andrews for controlling the first tee, Les Jackson for marshalling, Elaine Quinn for announcing players onto the tee and Nick Webb for taking photographs.”
