REYBRIDGE eventer David Doel enjoyed another good day at the Kelsall Horse Trials, in Cheshire.

In the lucrative Advanced Intermediate section, where the total prize fund was £3,000, the Wiltshire rider finished fourth, riding Koyuna Sun Magic.

Doel had just one showjump down after completing a 29.6 score on dressage.

In the two intermediate classes he won on Jiggle Jones with a 23 dressage score, one fence down on showjumping and two time penalties.

Doel also finished fourth on the promising Billy Pastime, owned by Gillian Jonas, with a 29 dressage score, and just 3.2 time penalties. Doel travels to Withington in Gloucester-shire for his next event, with Miss Caruso, owned by Jane James, hoping to repeat his win at Belton Horse Trials earlier in the month.

He will also ride Chap looking for a top ten finish as he aims to reinforce his hopes of being selected for the British U21 team to take part in the Eventing European Championship to be held at Vale Sabroso Portugal in September.

Wiltshire-based riders tasted success at the Burnham Market International in Norfolk.

Badbury’s Australian Olympian Andrew Hoy claimed victory in advanced section N on Cheeky Calimbo.

World number one Andrew Nicholson, who is based in Marlborough, was also on the podium.

The New Zealander was second in the international intermedate two-star class on Cillnabradden and on Urma BK in intermediate section Q.

He also finished third in the intermediate section on Ulises.

Lower Stanton St Quintin’s Kitty King was second in novice section K on Creevagh Cooley, with Little Cheverell’s Lucinda Fredericks just off the podium in fourth on Step Along Style, in novice section L.
