DAVID Howell says that he is pleased to be able to give something back to the club that helped get him where is today.

The 38-year-old is planning to be back at Broome Manor Golf Club tomorrow to hand out the trophies to the winners of the David Howell Classic.

And the Swindon pro, who is currently taking a two-week break from the European Tour, says that he will always look back at his time at the club with fondness.

“It is always nice going back to Broome Manor,” he said. “It is a club that I grew up playing at, it is where my mates all play.

“It is nice that I’m able to give a little back in just a small way - I remember the events that were sponsored at the club when I was a junior.

“I’m hoping to get back so that I can present the trophies, I’m not 100 per cent sure at the moment, but it is good to see the youngsters do so well.

“I know it is not the biggest tournament but all the members enjoy it and that is great.”

The David Howell Classic is a strokeplay mixed competition with the opening trio, Broome Manor’s Leslie Cleverly, Alan McCarthy and Christopher McKendrick, teeing off just after 6.30am.

There are nearly 170 players expected to be involved on Saturday, with the final trio setting off at 2pm.

The club will be holding a presentation evening following the event, with Howell hoping to be in attendance to present the winners with trophies.

  • WRAG Barn’s Josh Loughrey made a steady start to his first event on the Alps Tour yesterday in Paris.

Loughrey began the Open International de Rebetz well, as he birdied the second hole.

Bogeys at seven and nine saw him drop to one-over-par and he slipped a further shot at the 13th.

A birdie at the 17th saw Loughrey finish with a one-over-par 73, leaving him tied 68th overall.

Brother Ben, however, missed the cut at the EuroPro Tour Scottish Masters following his opening round of nine-over-par, as the tournament was reduced to 36 holes due to bad weather.
