GALES and Gusts Flyball made their second succesful foray into the Midlands’ flyball scene in three weeks as the Cotswold’s club picked up two first places and a pair of second places in the Vale of Evesham tournament.
Gusts’ first success came in a Division Six as they started off by overcoming sister club, the Typhoons, themselves hoping to extend their excellent start to the season, who pushed Gusts all the way but eventually fell 3-2.
The division proved to be very open and ended with the Gusts needing to win their last match to deny the in-form Typhoons top spot. Despite going two legs down the the match turned with the introduction of powerful Collie Flynn to the anchor role for the first time. The Cotswold’s club picked up three straight wins to clinch the match and division in dramatic style.
Gusts’ win meant the club took first and second placings in a quality division.
The club’s novice team, the Gales, were returning to the venue of their faultless performance of two weeks ago with their full squad of six dogs rotating through the day to record another emphatic victory.
All five matches were won convincingly with the loss of just one leg all day. The team of Rosie, Poppet, Jasper, Lexi, Belle and Darragh showed that there is going to be real competition for places in the senior teams now as they will all progress to the Open competition level.
The Zephyrs had a fantastic day in Division Seven setting about some very strong opposition winning their first four matches in style to force a final match decider for the division. Despite putting up a great battle the team of Woody, Jack, Evie, Heckla and Mist, were just edged out but completed an excellent day for the club clinching second place.
The Cotswold’s club return to the Southern region next weekend with as they travel to Didcot aiming to continue their good form.
