GYMNASTS from Chippenham’s Moonraker club had a busy two weekends of competition, achieving success at both events.

The West Country League opened for 2014 at the Forest of Dean Gymnastics Centre with CMG entering teams into the Division Three A and B League.

Taking on teams from across the South West of England as well as Wales, the A League (younger gymnasts) team of Kelsey Stokes, Mia Wright, Kacey Gainey, Megan Jones, Emma Rhodes and Charlotte Townsend performed well across all four apparatus to finish the day in the silver medal position.

Stokes placed third on the floor and fourth place all around, with Wright first on beam and fifth all around. Jones and Townsend were seventh and eighth all around respectively.

The B League – where more difficult elements are required – saw the Chippenham team of Grace Bellamy, Dominique Cator, Holly Hope, Lizzie Drew, Maisie Russell and Katie Strange secure the bronze medal, a single point away from silver.

Holly Hope placed first on vault with Dominique Cator second on the beam and sixth all around.

The club’s development gymnasts took part in the Fromeside three-piece event, competing on the vault, beam and floor.

In round one, the youngest representatives, making their competitive debut, showed great skill on all three events with Amelia Niker taking gold in the all-around competition as well as first place on the beam. Eva Falcone-Healy was second on the beam, with Emily Macklin-Day third.

Clara Black took second for her floor exercise and Lauren Halliwell and Freya Gleed also performed well in their respective age divisions.

In round two, Ellie Kimber, Amelia Scott and Tegan Seed put together a series of excellent performance, Seed placing third on the vault.

Chippenham gymnasts were outstanding in the final round, Mabel Smaller placing third all around and first on both beam and vault.

Alice Bellamy was second on beam, Ella Stiles third on beam and Oriana Powell third on both floor and vault.
