SKIPPER Alex Hart thinks it’s imperative his Trow-bridge side build on their opening day victory at Purton last weekend.

Trowbridge kicked off their latest Wiltshire League campaign with a single-wicket over their newly-promoted opponents, thanks in no small part to Wes Marshall’s 106, with the overseas star dropped twice by Purton and also surviving a clear run-out opportunity.

But Hart is keen to see his team ensure they don’t repeat a similar run of form to the opening period of last season, where five consecutive defeats followed a win over Nationwide House.

“We were wary that they would be looking to carry on their winning form from last season but we got the win – it’s important that we make sure we kick on now though,” said the Trowbridge captain.

“Last season, we lost five games after winning our first match and if we don’t build on this, then it will be for nothing.

“After being 152 without loss, we had a bit of a collapse and let them back into the game, which was a bit of a shame, but it was nice to see Mikey Reynolds picking up where he left off last season and young Sam Julyan, who’s an u16, got the best score of our middle order (16).”

Trowbridge put their hosts in to bat first but Purton notched up 229-8, with Elliot Hill unbeaten on 64 and Tom Bowler weighing in with 61.

But opener Marshall smacked his century off 109 deliveries, while Mike Reynolds chipped in with 69.

Purton’s Adam Woolford took 3-20 but Hart’s men reached 230-9 in the 42nd over to seal the result.

Winsley suffered a five-wicket defeat at the hands of Marshfield.

Damian Barry top scored with 36 in his side’s 175-8 from 50 overs, but Dave Jenkins’ 79 helped Marshfield home inside 35 overs.
