HAWKERIDGE hopeful Ben Harrison thinks his time has finally come as he looks to break into the professional game at World Snooker’s Q School next week.

The 22-year-old amateur will earn a spot on the pro tour if he can make it through to the quarter-final stage of one of two qualifying tournaments at Gloucester’s South West Snooker Academy.

He is drawn to take on Michael Leslie in the opening round of the first competition next Monday and either Chen Zhe or Ross Higgins in event two next Saturday.

Harrison could also have a back-up route to the pro ranks after being selected to represent England at the ESBA European Championships in Sofia, Bulgaria, on June 1-11, with winners also claiming a place on the tour.

“I really feel like this is my time. I’ve pretty much won everything there is to win in the amateur game and I’m ready to get on the tour now,” said Harrison.

“I feel like I’m in the best place I’ve been for the last two or three years but it’s been really tough because I lost my main sponsor, so I’ve had to work as well as practice.

“There are only two tournaments and half the places this year but I’ve been picked for England for the European Championships so I’ve got that too. If I can get on the tour and represent my country in a month, I’ll be buzzing.”

Harrison has also made it to English Amateur Championship finals day, in Sheffield in June, for the second successive year.

He was crowned southern champion last year before losing the national final to David Gray.
