CIRENCESTER Seniors thrashed Broadway before being brought back down to earth with a bump during a week of mixed results for the club.

Against Broadway, seniors captain Clive Bennett and John Thurston won the opening match 4&3, John Morris and Patrick Moylan played well to secure a 2&1 win and, after a halved match midway through the meeting, Cirencester ran away with the rest of the tie.

Mike Bishop and Alan Smith were back in the clubhouse before the early starters when they finished their match 7&6 while, not to be out done, Gerald Park and Andrew Somerville, playing his debut match for the seniors, won their match by the same score. Ken Anderson and John Parsons also recorded a handsome 4&3 victory to complete a 5.5-0.5 win for the host.

Next up for Ciren was Naunton Downs and, though a close match was contested, Naunton edged the tie 4-3.

In wet and windy conditions in the heart of the Cotswolds, the Ciren pair of Bennett and Pat Waldron won their match 4&2. Of the next four matches, however, only one went Cirencester’s way; Thurston and Ken Anderson winning 2&1.

A two-up success by Neil Grant and Martin Taylor left the match all square but the deciding game was won by the Naunton pair of Nick Cran and Graham Willmott, 4&2 to hand Naunton the win overall.

n SIXTY players competed for the Cirencester May Stableford, with John Morris claiming victory in Division One on countback.
