SWINDON boss Alun Rossiter is now seriously considering the position of second string Simon Gustafsson after another poor showing in the Robins 48-42 loss at King’s Lynn last night.

The Swede could only muster three points from four rides and was beaten by two riders who have graduated from the National League this season, seemingly lacking the desire and passion to fight back.

With little room for manoeuvre, Rossiter knows replacing Gustafsson could prove difficult but, now with time to think about the issue further ahead of next Thursday’s home clash with Leicester, he is only too aware making a change is something he must seriously consider.

“I will have to change the pairings round at least and move Simon down to two but I must admit I’m very frustrated with him now,” Rossiter told the Advertiser.

“There doesn’t look like there’s any fight there and I’m bitterly disappointed with him.

“He has to do better, he’s on a new engine and there’s no excuse.

“I’ll have to seriously look into it but, like I’ve said, there’s no magic wand and I’ll have to pull a rabbit out the hat.

“I can’t let things carry on like that but it’s not good enough.

“I don’t like doing this and I don’t like berating people, but I’ve supported him and he must do better.

“There are one or two riders I think could do a job but it’s too early to do anything yet and I need to be in the right frame of mind.

“We’ve got a week until our next meeting now and that gives me time to get my head clear and look at this.”

Gustafsson has only managed five heat wins in 40 races since joining Swindon from Eastbourne, and has been beaten by fast track reserve riders time and again on his way to 44 points from 10 matches.
