WESTBURY United have begun the hunt for a new manager after Matt Bown opted to call time on his spell in charge at Meadow Lane.

Bown took over at Westbury at the beginning of last season, and guided his side to a 20th place finish in the Toolstation League First Division, but the former Chippenham Town coach has chosen to walk away from the role.

United chairman Paul Brickely thinks that Bown was taken aback by the all-consuming nature of his first managerial role but is hoping to appoint a successor with Western League experience.

He said: “Matthew has decided that he doesn’t want to carry on as the manager. It’s his decision and we’ve got to accept it.

“He’s a close personal friend of mine and I think that he didn’t realise just how much work there would be involved.

“He brought a lot of players to the club but he wasn’t always able to bring in the calibre of player that he wanted.

“We’re looking for a new manager now and I’d like to get someone in with Western League experience if we can.”

For more information on the vacant manager’s role, call chairman Brickley on 07980 340505 or email secretary Roger Arnold on rogerarnold33@hotmail.com.
