ROGER Charlton believes an eventual step up in trip will suit Stomp after he went close in the coral.co.uk Sprint Trophy at Newmarket on Saturday.

Sent off the 3-1 favourite after two easy wins the season, the half-brother to Mince may also have found the ground on the quick side.

Beckhampton trainer Charlton had another fancied runner in the race in the shape of Stars Above Me, but she only beat two home and is set to revert to five furlongs.

"Stomp ran another very solid race to be beaten three-quarters of a length having found the ground a little quicker than he would have preferred," the trainer told rogercharlton.com.

"Joey Haynes said that he did not travel going in to the dip and he had to keep hold of him before he stayed on well up the hill. Another furlong will suit him at some stage.

"Stars Above Me was disappointing but she definitely needs to drop back a furlong to five as she did not last home."
