JONATHAN Lawrence’s 64 saw Weston-super-Mare’s second team home to a narrow, two-wicket victory over Swindon 2nd XI at the County Ground on Saturday.

Chasing 212 to win their Premier One 2nd XI clash, after 80 from 77 balls from Matt Baker had propelled Swindon to 211 all out in 45 overs, Weston were in trouble as Dan Harris ripped through the middle order with 4-32 from nine overs.

However, Lawrence knuckled down at the death and, with help from Max Brown and Aaron Hawkins, helped his team across the line.

In Premier Two 2nd XI, Goatacre never got near Thornbury’s total of 319 all out on the small village ground at Goatacre Lane, falling 68 runs show as they finished 251 all out in their chase.

Nationwide House are still waiting for their first victory of the Wiltshire 2nd XI Division season, after they were skittled for 106 by Burbage & Easton Royal at Pipers Way. Matthew Hyde made 29 and Darren Milne 31 for the hosts, but of the rest of the batting line-up only Jason Griffiths got past double figures as Sam Tuttle claimed four wickets for Burbage.

In reply, Tom Botham took two of the five wickets to fall but Burbage got home with plenty of overs to spare.

Elsewhere in the division, Purton remain bottom of the pile after falling well short in their run chase at Winsley.

Neil Harris spanked 14 fours and a six in his 85 and Tom Walker contributed 63 as Winsley racked up 270-7 from their 45 overs, Lachlan Beggs claiming 3-40 for Purton, before the hosts capitulated with the bat.

David Allen hit 30 but no one else got beyond 18 as Purton were dimissed for 132 inside 32 overs.

Lechlade’s second string completed a comfortable seven-wicket win over Westbury after bowling their hosts out for 135, with David Novais and Rizwan Hassan taking three wickets each. Lechlade then scored the required runs off just 18 overs with Hassan and Charles Offord scoring 48 and 41 not out respectively.
