MORE than 100 teams took part at the Swindon Town Football in the Community six-a-side tournament at the County Ground.

The tournament, which also helped raise money for STFITC Zambia Appeal, was staged over two days with teams from under sevens all the way to seniors taking part.

The under sevens and eights all took part in a football festivals with every player receiving medals.

STFITC development manager Jon Holloway said: “It was a great weekend.

“We had 111 teams taking part over the two days and we must have had around a couple of thousand people there watching.

“We haven’t got a final figure yet but I think we have raised some in the region of £5,000 for our Zambia Appeal.

“Some of that has gone in having a group come over earlier in the year and we are in the progress of planning our next trip to Zambia.

“We are currently looking at taking two youngsters out there with us to gain some work experience.”

The girls under sevens and eights festival also saw the STFITC under 16s sides provide players to lead the youngsters on the day.

Swindon Supermarine won both the under nines and 10s tournament, having three of their teams reach the finals.

In the under nines, the South Marston youngsters defeated Golden Valley Rangers 1-0, while in the under 10s Supermarine’s J side ran out 2-1 victorious over the club’s T outfit.

The under 11s competition went down to the wire, with Croft taking the honours in a penalty shootout after a goalless match.

Levi Cox’s strike in the adults final proved decisive for RCM as they defeated Victoria Secret on the golden goal rule after the two sides could not be separated in normal time.
