Martin Sell wins at Redlibbets
A SUPERB six under par 66 gave Wrag Barn professional Martin Sell his second Jamega Tour win of the season yesterday at Redlibbets Golf Club in Kent.
Sitting in tied fourth on two under par after the first round, Sell knew he had to produce something special to threaten overnight leader Ryan O’Neill. Birdies at the second, third and fourth set him on way.
Another birdie at the seventh ensured Sell reached the turn on four under par, as O’Neill failed to extend his lead and dropped a shot at the ninth.
Sharing the tournament lead with Sell at the turn was James Webber who started his second round with three straight birdies as he moved to three under after nine.
Also still in contention after 27 holes was Scott Fallon, whose two early birdies left him four under overall at the turn.
Sell continued his consistency on the back nine with birdies at 11 and 17, en route to a bogey-free round. While an eagle at 14 for Fallon took him to nine under par, before a double bogey at the 17th cost him dear.
A bogey at 17 for Webber saw him drop back to six under par for the tournament. O’Neill finished four under for his back nine to steal second place, one shot adrift from Sell.
The Wrag Barn star picked up £4,000 prize money for his success which extends his lead in the order of merit.
Sell currently leads the order of merit with £11,438 from Wellingborough’s Simon Lilly on £6,750.
Meanwhile fellow Wrag Barn professional Josh Loughrey returns to action today when he plays in the Asiago Open on the Alps Tour.
Loughrey tees off at Golf Club Asiago in Italy this morning alongside France’s Thomas Grava and Italy’s Aron Zemmer and bids to improve on a season’s best finish of tied 21st.
