THE Bath Hilly 10 played host to race five of the Wiltshire Race League, sponsored by Newsquest, the parent company of the Wiltshire Times.

Matt Whitfield, of Bristol & West AC, led home the field of more than 100, taking victory on the tough 10-mile course, in 57 minutes and seven seconds.

In fifth, Gary Dunstone, of Chippenham Harriers claimed the prize for first male vet 40 and maintained his position as leading male scorer in the league standings.

In the Ladies race, Fiona Price, of Avon Valley Runners, took victory in the women’s race in 70 minutes and 57 seconds.

With clubmates Diane Hier finishing third (and first female vet 50) and Jennifer Ford in fourth, it was enough to ensure that the Trowbridge-based club again took the full 20 league points on offer.

Avon Valley’s B team moved within a point of second-placed Chippenham Harriers in the First Division.

The next race in the Wiltshire Road Race League is the Broad Town 5 near Wootton Bassett on Saturday, June 21.
